Women Empowerment: BEATRICE ATIENO

Beatrice Atieno lives in Got Osimbo village, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County. She got married to Samson Otieno in 2010 and together they have four children.
Before joining MACODEP, Beatrice and her family sold onions and tomatoes to generate income.
Her first of Ksh2,000 ($18.25) with the community development project to boost her business and bought milk, bread, sugar, rice, spices and snacks to put up a small shop,
From the profit she realized, she was able to start keeping poultry. She started off with five chickens and now has 15.
Before Beatrice could qualify for a loan, she had to save weekly what she got as profit from the sale of onions and tomatoes and chicken.
Through determination, discipline and hard work, her family can afford to have three meals a day as well as other basic needs.
Beatrice and her family plan to expand the business into a wholesale shop, and if necessary get three people to help in running it. They also plan to get training on entrepreneurship skills that would enable them to register their wholesale business and compete with bigger stores in the country.
